Lebanon is a country of extraordinary contrasts and vibrant diversity, offering a wealth of experiences that change with the seasons. Picture this: you can spend the morning swimming in the Mediterranean Sea and hit the slopes for skiing in the afternoon – all in a single day! This remarkable blend of sun and snow is one of the things that makes Lebanon so unique. From December to April, the country’s snowy mountains become a skier's paradise, attracting enthusiasts to its well-maintained resorts and stunning landscapes.
Skiing in Lebanon has a rich history, beginning in the early 20th century when an engineering student, inspired by his studies in Switzerland, brought the sport to the region. Today, Lebanon boasts six incredible ski resorts, with the Cedars Ski Resort in Bsharri being the oldest and first to introduce a ski lift. For those seeking more variety, Mzaar Ski Resort in Kfardebian is the largest and offers an exceptional range of slopes.
With mountains soaring over 3,000 meters (10,000 feet), Lebanon is often referred to as the “Switzerland of the East.” The country’s six top-tier ski resorts are nestled in the Mount Lebanon range, where they face the Mediterranean Sea. Together, these resorts feature 49 ski lifts and a combined 300 km of pistes, offering an unforgettable experience for skiers of all levels.
What's even better is that these resorts are just a short drive from Beirut – some are less than an hour away, making them perfect for a day trip. After a day on the slopes, you can unwind in Lebanon’s lively après-ski scene, which has become a signature part of the experience, offering great food, drinks, and memories that last long after the sun sets. So, if you're seeking adventure and relaxation all in one trip, Lebanon's winter wonderland awaits!
